Domestic Violence Court Assistance Network (DVCAN) – Gen Houston
The Domestic Violence Court Assistance Network (DVCAN) is a, state-wide network of court assistance workers who provide assistance and support through the court process to women who apply for domestic violence protection orders. This network was established in 1996.
DVCAN members come from a variety of workplaces. Some are attached to domestic violence services, some to refuges and neighbourhood centres and independently funded services. There are also volunteers from a variety of organisational structures.
The role of DVCAN is to:
- provide mutual support, information, training, resources;
- encourage innovation and improve practice; and
- lobby – for funding (for direct service delivery, a training and resource unit, monitoring and evaluation); and
- be a strong voice for legal and justice system reform, by highlighting issues raised through the court process.
