Queensland Sexual Assault Network (QSAN) – Karin Cheyne
Membership of the Queensland Sexual Assault Network is inclusive of any worker whose position is funded by Queensland Health’s Sexual Assault Support and Prevention Program funding.
QSAN aims to:
- Provide specialised knowledge and state-wide consultation on issues of sexual violence and sexual assault service provision.
- Lead social awareness and education on issues of sexual violence.
- Promote professional development and support for sexual assault support workers.
- Provide a forum for sharing information, knowledge, skills, and resources across Sexual Assault Support and Prevention Services.
- Identify regional trends/needs, and advocate/lobby for social, legal, and political change to address issues of sexual violence.
- Support the development of state-wide, national and international partnerships to advance community responses to sexual violence.
- Initiate and/or support the development of local and state-wide campaigns and resources.
- Negotiate with funding bodies where appropriate on issues pertaining to the management of funded Sexual Assault Support and Prevention Services in Queensland.
- Strengthen the functions of QSAN and support the development of a peak body in Queensland.
- Provide representation and maintain links with key national and state-wide organisations such NASASV, NAPCAN and ACSSA. Where appropriate QSAN will nominate and endorse representatives for such organisations (guidelines for endorsement attached).
- Form working groups to address issues and/or projects as identified by QSAN. Membership on working groups will be voluntary and by self or service nomination.
Queensland Sexual Assault Network will convene two “face to face” meetings each year. These will be up to two days in duration. In addition, QSAN will meet at least another four times per year, connecting services across Queensland via teleconference for approximately two hours.
