The Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research (QCDFVR), in partnership with the Australian Institute for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) and Charles Darwin University (CDU) is calling for expressions of interest from prospective presenters at their inaugural national Indigenous Family Violence Prevention Forum.1
The Indigenous Family Violence Prevention Forum aims to:
• highlight and celebrate the good work that is being done by Indigenous people themselves to end family violence;
• support Indigenous people to share information and knowledge about strategies and programs that could be used
effectively by others; and to
• promote opportunities for networking between Indigenous workers in the field of family violence prevention.
Expressions of interest are sought from prospective presenters on one or more of the following three topics:
• Children and family violence
• Abuse of older people
• Family violence and homelessness
Expressions of interest must be submitted no later than 9th November 2009.
QCDFVR and its partners will select presentations from the expressions of interest and advise selected presenters by 30th November 2009.
QCDFVR and its partners will pay the following costs for selected presenters:
• Your flights to and from Mackay
• Accommodation during the forum
• Meals at your motel
• Your registration and forum dinner
At the conclusion of the forum speakers will be required to provide QCDFVR with a
brief synopsis of their presentation for inclusion in the forum report.
1 Over the past six years CDFVR has convened the annual Indigenous Family Violence Prevention Forum as its contribution to Queensland’s Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month. CDFVR has responded to increasing demand for the forum to be a national event by partnering with AIATSIS and CDU; it envisions that a national Indigenous Family Violence Prevention Forum will be held every three years, with the Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Prevention Forum every other year
