The Role of the Aboriginal Domain in Reducing Family Violence

On 4 May, 2007 the Centre hosted a seminar presentation by, Dr Harry Blagg, Director of Studies at the Crime Research Centre, University of Western Australia.
Harry has a national and international reputation as a leading criminologist specialising in Indigenous people and criminal justice, policing and restorative justice. During 2001 – 2005, Harry was the Research Director of the West Australian Law Reform Commission’s Project, Aboriginal Customary Law, which was founded on close partnership with Aboriginal communities and produced the most intensive investigation on Aboriginal law since the 1986 review by the Australian Law Reform Commission.
Harry’s presentation drew on his involvement in the Aboriginal Customary Law project and explored the role of Aboriginal law and culture in prevention, intervention and treatment of family violence; and related initiatives aimed at reducing Indigenous family violence.
