Responding to the protective needs of children affected by domestic violence
7 December 2007
Professor Cathy Humphreys
Professor Humphreys’ presentation examined the challenges for policy and practice for child protection in the context of domestic violence, and argued for the re-conceptualisation of domestic and family violence to acknowledge that such violence is a direct and indirect attack on the mother-child relationship. Protective responses arising from this framework locate responsibility for the violence with the perpetrator and intervene to strengthen the mother-child relationship in the aftermath of violence.
Professor Humphreys’ seminar is being produced in DVD format, and will be available free of charge, for educational purposes only, in early 2008. Please contact the Centre if you would like to receive a copy of this DVD.
