Kalei Kanuha, PhD, MSW

On August 6 2004, the Centre hosted a presentation from Associate Professor Kalei Kanuha, from the School of Social Work , University of Hawaii.  Professor Kanuha’s presentation, titled Ke Ala Lōkahi (The Pathway to Harmony):  Using Native Hawaiian Cultural Values and Practices to Address Domestic Violence Among Hawaiian Men and Women , was video-conferenced to seven sites in Queensland and two sites in Adelaide.

Ke Ala Lōkahi (The Pathway to Harmony), is a pilot project that uses a group model and supportive counselling to connect Native Hawaiian cultural practices with Western analyses of intimate partner violence.  Professor Kanuha’s presentation gave an overview of the project’s key philosophical and program elements and reported on the preliminary research generated by the project.

Professor Kanuha’s accompanying PowerPoint presentation featured a number of photographic images which are not appropriate for posting on the Centre’s website.  Unfortunately, a paper from this seminar is not available.
