Red Dust Healing: A specific cultural healing program developed from an Indigenous perspective

31 October, 2008
Randal Ross, 2008 Rowan Nicks and Russell Drysdale Fellow, James Cook University

Randal Ross’ seminar presented an overview of the philosophy, content, structure and evaluation of a therapeutic and transformative group program called Red Dust Healing. This program was originally designed by Warramunga man, Tom Powell and further developed in partnership with Randal Ross. Red Dust Healing examines the intergenerational effects of colonialism on the mental, physical and spiritual well being of Indigenous families and encourages Indigenous men and women to confront and deal with the problems, hurt and anger in their lives.  A key focus of the program relates to rebuilding and healing families and communities through restoring Indigenous men’s identity, responsibilities and relationships.

The Red Dust healing seminar is being produced in DVD format, and will be available free of charge, for educational purposes only, in early 2009.  Please contact the Centre if you would like to receive a copy of this DVD.
